This news release contains  information about two project initiatives that are being co-sponsored by the mission, the Men's Discussion Group and the Independent Drama Project. Also, a reminder about the Health and Mission Fair this Saturday at the Federated Church, in West Winfield, NY.

What will we discuss?

We will look to God's word for answers to questions including broader life questions and pressing day-to-day issues. The goal is to create a self-organizing group; this will provide the option for more or less structure as decided by the participants, and the flexibility to choose topics and devote time to specific issues as they arise in a variety of life situations.  Open to all interested men. Please call or email for information and meeting times.

Jesus and non-violence - An upcoming article on non-violence and Christianity has everything to do with the path of discernment and boundaries.

In oppressive situations, are we as Christians called to patiently endure, or to be more proactive?

Beyond the typical responses of fight or flight, non-violent  civil disobedience presents a third way to respond to oppressive conditions in the world at large. Unlike the first two reactive methods, non-violence represents an active but peaceful approach. Mahatma Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., and others have successfully used this method to  bring change to oppressive situations, and in so doing, changed the course of history.

For these leaders, the Sermon on the Mount provided fundamental inspiration and guidance. Yet verses about “turning the other cheek,” going “the second mile,” and others remain controversial and difficult to interpret for many Christians today.  Do these scriptures call for simple passivity, or are they a call to proactively but peacefully expose injustices?

In an upcoming article series in the Mission newsletter, we will explore these concepts and their application in today’s world.

The Federated Church, one of our covenant partners, is hosting a Health & Ministry Fair as part of Their 40 Day of Purpose Campaign. Hot Dogs, balloons, and blood pressure check & car wash will be available there.

The Mission will have a booth in the fair, along with many others. We invite you to attend!
